The FAA has released AC 61-142 Sharing Aircraft Operating Expenses in Accordance with 14 CFR § 61.113(c)
This AC combines previous legal interpretations and discusses holding out in more detail than before. Additionally, it dispels myths about 61.113 (c) and pro rata share of expenses. Specifically, the pilot and passenger who are sharing expenses cannot always share expenses if there is not a common purpose for the flight.
The AC can be found here. Make sure to review prior to your next private or commercial checkride!
Tailwinds,
Lance
